Surface Color / Hidden Object

Postby terekita » Fri Feb 26, 2010 11:05 pm

This thread ( http://www.thirdpartyplugins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=48 ) asked the question that I'm wondering about: is it possible to pick up surface color from an object, but not see the object in the final render?

I've been able to have an object off camera and still see the surface-colored particles. But what I really want to do is look down on a plane from above while it's shooting off particles, but not see the plane in the final render, just the particles. Or move some objects around through the plane of the camera, and only see the particles they emit. As mentioned in the above thread, using a compositing tag and setting camera visibility to 0 doesn't seem to work.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks, Michael

You can use a transparent object to hide the objects you don't want to be seen. See the attached example scene.
